Social media is powerful, and with great power, comes great responsibility. It might not be as obvious if you are posting a social media faux paus…so how do you distinguish between great quality posts and the obnoxious ones?

Along with content, social media is all about creating brand recognition. Be sure to establish consistent branding across all social media platforms. Have the same profile picture, cover image, and accessible contact information on all of your pages. When it comes to Facebook & Instagram, think about posting the same “hue” of colors or images as well, to be visually pleasing.
No Schedule for Posting
There’s a fine line of posting when it comes to social media – you don’t want to post too little, and you don’t want to post too much. You want to give people reliable information, but you don’t want to annoy them either. Creating a schedule of how many times you’ll be posting per day and picking times when you have the most engagement are key steps to take when it comes to social media.
Hootsuite’s frequency suggestions for posting on different platforms is listed below:
- Instagram: 2-3 times per week, and no more than 1x per day.
- Facebook: 1 time per day, and no more than 2 times per day.
- Twitter: 1-2 times per day, and no more than 3-5 times per day.
- LinkedIn: once a day, and no more than 5x per day.
So you’ve created your schedule, you’ve posted to your pages, but then you leave it alone for the rest of the day?
You’ll want to keep an eye on any comments, replies, or reshares on your posts across your social media platforms. One of the biggest mistakes is not interacting on social media. The more you engage with followers, the more they see you as a real person and not just someone out there trying to make another buck. Not only does your audience start to connect with you on a more personal level, but they’ll eventually turn into clients!
At the end of the day, social media is supposed to be fun! While it’s a powerful tool to use, you should still be playful and creative with it.
