3 Tips for Home DIY Projects!

Happy National Homeownership Month to all our customers and real estate partners out there. June really is a special month for our team, and it’s because of all of you.

With all of the amazing aspects of homeownership, there are also some not-so-desirable ones that are unavoidable. Yes, we’re talking about home maintenance. It’s necessary to make sure your home is safe and secure, but many repairs can be expensive, complicated, and even dangerous.

Every year home improvement projects land thousands of DIY homeowners in the hospital with injuries. Even if you are a trained professional, these projects can always pose a threat of injury. So we want to give you some tips on how to keep your home in tip top shape without a trip to the ER!

  • Watch a video on YouTube. If you are unsure of how to do something, watching someone else do it is always a good first move. YouTube has a treasure trove of information where you can find step-by-step videos of just about any home repair.
  • Make sure to use PPE. These three letters are familiar to all of us now, but personal protective equipment is essential for any home improvement project! You would be surprised how many injuries occur during small, easy jobs. No matter what the task is, proper gear is key. Make sure you have safety goggles, gloves, a mask, or anything else that can protect you from injury during your project.
  • Use the right tool for the job. Your toolbox may not be enough. If the project requires specialized equipment, make sure you have it at your disposal. While new tools can be expensive, they’re almost always cheaper than a hospital bill.  Of course, renting or borrowing what you need are good options too.

Follow these tips next time you have a home improvement project to tackle, and you will save yourself time, money and potential pain. Don’t let home improvement projects scare you, you can take care of them the right way and make the reality of homeownership a positive one.
